Sweet, sweet, 14-year old Lucy.
She was the first in an incredible roster of senior dogs that have answered my latest Casting Call. Currently, nearly 40 seniors have applied to be a part of what I call my Senior Moments project.
Senior Moments is a program that is continuing to evolve at the studio. Ultimately, I plan to create a Senior Moments-themed book that echoes the award winning It's Important to Paws book. But this will take some time. IITP was 25 years in the making. It won't take this long to produce a Senior Moments book. And I hope to unveil a preview in August, 2014.
This image of Lucy reflects many things. Here's just a snippet: She was dropped off at Anchorage Animal Care and Control a few years ago by a Chesapeake Bay Retriever lover. Fostered at a second home. Then adopted to her current home where she has lived for about four years. About one week ago, she was seriously injured by a dog that was not under control by its owner.
Today's visit was complicated by all of the above. But everyone who drops by the studio soon learns that its a fun experience - free of anesthesia, poking, needles and slippery tables. Lucy caught on quickly. She was a joy and she had a lot of fun. That's all I could ask.
I'm rejuvenated with this project and ready to go. 'Senior Moments' is the working title. I may change the name down the road, but the theme will be the same: Our senior dogs are treasures.
