We're thrilled to help welcome Mason to the world. Saturday was already a great day. His portraits capped it off beautifully. What a handsome baby boy - and . OH. those eyes!
Baku, Part 2
Spectacular sunshine and a very handsome, well-loved dog highlighted a Saturday morning this past weekend. Baku made his second appearance in front of our lenses this year. And what a job he did. Thank you, Ken. What a fantastic day for photos.
Stack of Gold
Today, Layla and Flash helped recreate a pose I shot nearly 25 years ago featuring Buddy and Barney. They were Brittany Spaniels that lived next to Campbell Lake. Great dogs - and they're featured on page 62 of our book It's Important to Paws.

Gunner
Don't you just love those glacial blue eyes?!!
Gunner is another of those special dogs that left a lasting impression on me. He and his family are incredible. Gunner, a 15-year old chocolate labrador has been blind for several years. He was adopted blind but that is not why he was adopted. To know him is to love him. I loved him after just seconds.
This entire session was perfect. From the studio to Alpenglow … amazing.
The image of Gunner with the shadows was a single photo. I wanted to show another way that dogs and people connect with each other beyond physical touch.
Enjoy!

Copper and Stormy
This was a joyful session in many ways. Stormy and Copper are both rescues with many stories. They have a wonderful family and we loved photographing each of you. I love what we create together and know that you will, too. Thank you.

My Alaska
A new friend, Ingrid, snapped this photo of me while I was driving home from a classic car show this past weekend. She posted it recently and a Facebook site called The Alaska Life picked it up. Since then, it gathered a small following with lots of fun comments. Click to The Alaska Life to see what people think about a crazy guy driving his car without the top down Seward Highway in the middle of winter. btw ... Layla was hunkered down sleeping with her head on my leg. She was so tired!
Thank you Ingrid! Pretty fun way to start the week.
Max and Jonathan
Frosty paws didn't slow these two Brussel's Griffon siblings during their romps at the studio this past Saturday. Max and Jonathon are the cutest! They have a wonderful mom who loves strapping on their doggy booties, too.
Specials
Fresh snow abounds and so do the specials at the studio.
Click the Specials link at the top of this page to see if one fits your needs. If not, give us a call and tell us what you need. We'll talk you through everything.
Shown to the right are some of the creative pieces Kelsey, our studio manager has designed to highlight these once-a-year offers.

Grizzabella
Grizzabella looks beautiful with every background. Today, she followed me around Memory Lane behind the studio building while I was shoveling fresh-fallen snow. So pretty.
Abby
This was a fantastic session on many levels.
As Taylor and I drove up to the AlpenGlow parking lot we encountered thick fog and cloud cover most of the way up the mountain. All the way up, we wondered if we might break through to clear conditions.
On arrival, there were clouds in the sky but the lighting was exquisite. The sunlight was perfectly filtered and it complemented Abby's eyes beautifully.
It was about noon when we arrived at the trailhead. We were first to trudge through the fresh 12" snowfall. It looked like a moose had tromped around a few hours earlier. There's nothing like looking back on a trail knowing that you've laid virgin footprints.
I love Alaska. This is what it is all about for me.
Thanks, Roger. Great time with you today.

On the trail with Ted.
One of the best parts of photography is encountering candid, unscripted moments. Being ready for them is, of course, helpful. And that's what happened today as Kelsey and I photographed handsome, 15-year old Ted and his family near FlatTop Mountain and then on some horse trails along the mid-Hillside area. Two horses happened along during the session. I saw the riders waiting for me to finish a shot and then we moved off the trail. At that moment I realized that the dogs would probably be interested in watching the horses trot on by. I positioned myself with Ted in the foreground and let the scene happen by itself.

Kobuck
An inch of fresh snow does wonders for bringing out our Kobie's beautiful brown eyes. He posed between tosses of his favorite red Kong Ball earlier today. Such a handsome boy.
Lexie, Finley and Annie.
Wednesday was a pretty cool day as Taylor and I enjoyed the company of these three adorable dogs. All are rescues. One was adopted from Friends of Pets (Annie). The other two are Cairn Terriers that were rescued from puppy mills.
I don't often show my work as black and white - though I love the look - but took the opportunity to show it with one of the portraits from this session because it really pops out nicely.
The stories behind each of these dogs are incredible. Even better are their remarkable lives today. They're surrounded by the love they deserve thanks to wonderful people.
Annie was turned in to Anchorage Animal Care and Control a few years ago. Friends of Pets rescued her, put her photo in the Anchorage Daily News and fostered her until a family adopted her. She's now living happily ever after.
A day of paws with Layla
Today was 'Layla Day.'
We began our adventures with a three hour hike around the mountains near FlatTop. The temperature was Zero Degrees when we started the trek at 9 a.m.
The sunrise roasted our backsides on return to the trailhead.
After chores at the house we shook off the dust on the '57 tbird with a cruise along the Seward Highway. The mountain reflections on the Turnagain Arm inlet were incredible.
As seen in the slide show below, Layla and Bird posed while the sun began to set.
A perfect day. :)

Louee and Sonny
Sunshine and longer hours of daylight are coming back to Anchorage again. Taylor and I took advantage of the weather - though it was a little chilly - to photograph Louie, a handsome Border Collie and Sonny, his equally gorgeous Australian Shepherd family member. I'll add to this collection later Sunday. For now, it's off to an icy trail with Layla at 9 a.m. at zero degrees.

Baku's Family
Saturday was packed with wonderful photography opportunities. This series featured Baku and Elvira. Very cool!

Family fun
The Gose family brought lots of laughs and entertainment to the studio this morning.
Banjo, their 12-week old English Springer Spaniel was a little bewildered with all of the squeaks, treats and frolics. But the kids kept Banjo calm and relaxed. And they posed beautifully.
Also making an appearance were two Viszlas: Oliver and Mia. Aren't they striking?
The poses here were made possible thanks to Taylor's excellent help throughout. Great teamwork!

Rusty.
I've met a few seniors the past few weeks. Rusty, at 15, was a perfect girl in the studio today. I love her colors. And her personality ... there are so many special things about her that shined.
Rusty's expressions and mannerisms told me how much she looks to her human dad. She adores him and the mutual feeling is obvious. You can see it in their smiles together.

Molly
Sweet, independent, vibrant Molly did the three-step around the studio Tuesday afternoon.
It was a joy being able to meet her and watch as she sniffed the grounds of the studio parks.
The sunshine was beautiful and I took advantage of it at every opportunity.
Molly lost her back left leg to cancer last August. Her independent spirit guides her up and down the doggie ramp to her human's car full of expectation that the next adventure will be grand.
What a beauty.

SunDog
Sun Dogs, according to WikiPedia, are atmospheric phenomenon that create bright spots of light in the sky, often on a luminous ring or halo on either side of the sun."
Sun Dogs, according to Grizzabella, are senior puppies who are bright spots of light in the eyes of their humans.
Grizzabella, as featured on Jackie Purcell's Weatherpix feature/KTUU News Hour. Thank you, Jackie!
